Counselling Times
In-person counselling at Kete (18a Leigh Street, Kaeo) is available on Fridays from 1 pm to 7 pm (fortnightly) or online Monday to Thursday nights from 6 to 8 pm.
Sessions are 50 minutes.
We also run the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) drop-in clinic from Kete, 18a Leigh Street, Kaeo, fortnightly on Fridays from 9 am to 12 pm. Check the latest events news for up-to-date information on the AOD clinic. No booking is required to attend a confidential, non-judgemental 30min AOD screen and brief intervention!
About Hone
Hone Heke Taniwha is of Ngapuhi me Ngati Kahu o roto Whangaroa te Iwi. Ngati Kawau, Ngati Haiti, Ngati Kawhiti, Ngati Ruamahue, and Ngai Tupango te hapu. A Dapaanz registered AOD/PG practitioner with many years of lived experience with recovery from AOD addiction.
Personal statement:
"I reflect on my recovery journey, and I did not stop drinking alcohol and taking drugs by myself. I needed the understanding, aroha and awhi from others like me who are also in recovery to achieve abstinence. I had to have the courage and faith to make the life-changing adjustments to maintain recovery. I am a 12-step advocate, and I have benefited personally and professionally by engaging with different peer support groups (Alcoholics Anonymous NZ, Narcotics Anonymous NZ and Al-Anon NZ)."
Te Whatu Ora MHAS has employed Hone as an AOD Clinician.
Hone was born in Napier and raised in Wellington. He has three sons and four moko. He is also the project manager for Takutai Moana (MACA) claimant group CIV-2017-485-249.
About Kylie
Kylie Mauriohooho is a descendant of Tainui, Ngati Raukawa, and Ngati Kahungunu. She has many years of customer services experience working in the hospitality industry and is a qualified beauty therapist from WelTec, a cook and a baker. Kylie appreciates quality second-hand designer clean clothing and provides these at affordable prices. She has a style and appreciation of designer clothing that's affordable and stylish.
Kylie has established herself as a valuable community person amongst the wider community. She can korero with kuia, kaumatua, wahine, tane and tamariki who come into the Kete. She is 49 years old and loves being of service to the community in Whangaroa. She is a mother of two young adults and a known pet dog lover about whom the locals say, “That’s the lady who walks the dog.”
